Litigium Capital is happy to announce a cooperation agreement with Qamcom IPR Technology and Mats Rydström. The cooperation is intended to strengthen our capabilities within intellectual property law. Mats is a European Patent Attorney and has a doctoral degree from Chalmers University of Technology.
Litigium Capital has noted a rising interest for third party funding regarding intellectual property. Many inventors and start-ups expend significant resources on patents and intangible rights development, but often lack the capabilities to defend these when challenged.
Mats will primarily assist Litigium Capital with technical research in connection with a dispute. Mats’ assessments will constitute an independent complement to the advice of the legal and patent counsel representing our client in the dispute. Most importantly, Mats’ input will be an important addition to Litigium Capital’s decision on whether to finance an intellectual property dispute or not.
Today we celebrate the success of our very first customer!
Only two months after receiving financing from Litigium Capital for an arbitration procedure regarding redemption of shares, the parties reached a settlement. The settlement amount was more than seven times what the customer had been offered initially.
“I felt that I was effectively without legal rights and that the counterparty exploited the fact that I neither had the competence nor the resources to defend my rights. Without third party funding I would never have dared to pursue my cause and seek justice. I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from Litigium Capital and for a very good outcome”, says the customer.
Litigium Capital is very satisfied with this positive outcome, which serves as proof of the strength in our business model. We see a significant interest in our offering in the market and are currently evaluating a number of interesting investment opportunities.
Litigium Capital’s operations have recently been highlighted in Swedish media.
The Swedish Bar association’s newspaper Advokaten No 3 /2020 published an interview with Sebastian Wejedal (juris doctor in procedural law) who notes that Litigium Capital and its product litigation funding constitutes a need in the Swedish justice system. The article is available in Swedish only (page 28 ff) and can be found here.
Two other articles of interest (in Swedish only):
Litigation funding is a financing form which has become a natural part of the legal system in many jurisdictions across the world. The financing form is gaining ground in Sweden as well. However, litigation funding in Sweden today is typically utilized in disputes with very large disputed amounts. Litigium Capital is targeting to change the market in this respect.
“By focusing exclusively on Sweden and disputes with Swedish applicable law, while also having the possibility to finance smaller disputes than our international competitors, we think that we can establish litigation funding as a widely known and frequently used way of financing on the Swedish market, says Thony Lindström Härdin, CEO of Litigium Capital. ”We have already made our first investment and are looking forward to making new investments so that more companies are able to access justice”, Lindström Härdin continues.
